WOW Factor Ideas: Hiroshima Kagura
Starting from this MICE newsletter, we will be introducing a WOW factor idea once for your future incentive product planning.

Today, we would like to introduce Hiroshima Kagura, brought to you by Hiroshima Convention & Visitors Bureau.

You may consider to include this activity if you have any incentive groups visiting Kansai area. Just one step out of Kansai area, and your group will get to experience this unique cultural show!

Kagura is one of the traditional Japanese performing arts that was dedicated to gods as thanks for a plentiful harvest in early times. Throughout its history from ancient times to the present, many different styles of Kagura have been developed in different areas across the country, mixing with local cultures.

Hiroshima Kagura is said to have its roots in neighboring Shimane Prefecture, and was later introduced and developed in the Geihoku region of Hiroshima. In autumn, Kagura is performed at shrines throughout the prefecture to pray for a plentiful harvest.

Many of the Kagura stories are based on Japanese mythology and are tales of good versus evil, where evil demons and dragons bring misfortune to the people, but legendary heroes vanquish them with their own skill and wisdom.

There is a regular performance of Kagura in Hiroshima City, which takes place every Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. until December 25, 2024. The venue, the Hiroshima Prefectural Citizen's Culture Center, is a 3-minute walk from the Atomic Bomb Dome, making it easily accessible to tourists.

Don't speak Japanese? No problem! In addition to a playbill with a summary of the play, an English-speaking MC will provide an explanation before the performance. English subtitles are also available during the performance.

There will be a photo session with the performers after the show. One of the features of this performance is the closeness to the actual dancers. Take a closer look at their costumes and props.

With flamboyant costumes, music with Japanese drums and flutes, and magnificent, dynamic dancing, Hiroshima Kagura will give you an exciting experience unique to this region.
