#1
Watermelon (Suika)
If you ask Japanese, what is the food that will make you think of summer? Most of them will have "Suika" first in their mind. This "Suika" is not the SUICA transportation card we use for trains/ buses in Japan, but it is the Japanese name for watermelon.
After being chilled in the fridge, the juicy and crunchy watermelon is definitely one of the top favourite foods during summer!
You may want to try out the watermelon from Kumamoto prefecture in Kyushu region which has the largest production of watermelons in Japan!

#2
Japanese Style Noodles (Somen)
素面
Speaking of traditional Japanese summer food, we must not miss out the famous cuisine experience, Nagashi-somen.
Delicious smooth noodles flow down along with clear cold water in a half-cut bamboo, you will need to grab the noodles with chopsticks very quickly and accurately or the noodles will just flow away.
Jot down this cuisine in your to-do-list for your next Japan trip and try it at Takachiho town in Miyazaki prefecture of Kyushu region, the birthplace of Nagashi-somen!

#3
Hiyashi Chuka
Hiyashi Chuka is a kind of Japanese cold noodles, normally eaten with chilled sauce and toppings such as shredded eggs, ham, cucumber, etc.
This is a common summer food of which you can simply find it in most convenience stores during summer, as well as Chinese restaurants located all over Japan.
Try them in Sendai where Hiyashi Chuka noodle is originated from once you are able to travel to Japan again!

#4
Eel (Unagi)
Another classic food that Japanese people like to eat would be eel!
Although July in summer is not the best time to eat eel in Japan, but there is an ancient saying that one can regain their energy by eating food starting with "u" (as “u” in the name of "unagi") during summer.
So, how about we try to regain our energy by eating eel during hot weather in Malaysia too?!
If you are able to visit Japan in the future, you can visit Shizuoka prefecture to try their famous Hamamatsu eel rice there!

#5
Ice Cream
Another classic dessert that Japanese people like to eat during summer is definitely ice cream!
There are various kinds of ice cream you can find all over in Japan.
How about trying a kind of ice cream which is born in America but raised up in Okinawa?
Blue Seal is an ice cream brand which is popular in Okinawa prefecture and it is a perfect match to the hot weather in Okinawa!
Other than classic flavours such as chocolate and vanilla flavour, they also offer local flavours such as Beni-imo (Okinawan sweet potato) flavour,  Okinawan Salt Cookies flavour, etc.

Blue Seal
